This section discusses how to use tools, namely DumpSec, Hyena, and Belarc. Somarsoft DumpSec (previously known as DumpAcl) is a security reporting. DumpSec is a software application used to build reports about security configuration for a system. It’s compatible with Windows products and developed by a company called SomarSoft. In general, using DumpSec and similar tools helps network and system monitors to administrate aspects of complex IT setups. Security experts use these kinds of resources to identify and fix security holes or weaknesses in systems. These tools assist those who work for legitimate businesses trying to build security into established IT systems, against the efforts of various hackers and black hat developers trying to exploit vulnerabilities in a system. In terms of specific function, SomarSoft DumpSec dumps permissions and various settings for a file system into a reporting format in order to allow more readability. Reviewers also get information on individual system users and groups of users. ![]() Company resources show that these programs are offered as freeware for Windows NT and 200x. Although some IT professionals may use the term DumpSec generically to refer to a similar security feature or product, it’s most accurate and precise to defer to the branded software product developed for the specific purpose. Some cyberattacks operate on the basis of profit or to steal sensitive information, where others are more experimental and may not be motivated by the same concrete goals. Either way, security professionals have to deal with a wide spectrum of threats to networks and systems, and having detailed knowledge of specific tools, even tools as straightforward as reporting software, is important. Anybody out there have any success using DumpSec? We're going thru an IT audit and I need to provide a data dump for some stuff in Active Directory. The dump needs to include: User Name Groups Group Comment Full Name Comment PswdCanBeChanged PswdLastSetTime PswdRequired PswdExpires PswdExpiresTime AcctDisabled AcctLockedOut AcctExpiresTime LastLogonTime LastLogonServer LogonHours Please mark the checkbox 'Show 'True' last logon time'' The process runs for hours.then errors out with no data shown. Using Server 2008R2. We (SystemTools) offer free support for our products, including free ones like DumpSec and Exporter. DumpSec is probably around 20 years old by my calculations, so while it can have problems, it should run on any Windows version. I just now ran it through some paces on a Windows 2008 system, so if its crashing for you, send an email to along with details on what settings you enabled and maybe we can reproduce it. However, both DumpSec and Exporter are pre-Active Directory applications which means that they won't be able to access any data elements added after Windows NT (ie employee ID, address, phone numbers, etc). But I don't see anything on your list that would prevent it from getting at the information. Same for Exporter. I was not able to really see enough details on the screen shot, but again, send details to and we will be happy to have a look at it. Our other solutions, Hyena and Exporter Pro, are not free outside of their eval periods, and might be hard to justify given your straight-forward list. But we would be happy to help you figure out what is happening in your situation. Edited Dec 20, 2013 at 22:26 UTC. Solitary Shell [5:48] 07. The Test That Stumped Them All [5:03] 05.
